Author Guidelines

The Iranian Political History Research Journal welcomes original articles, research papers, review articles, critical essays, and case studies focusing on various aspects of Iranian political history. In order to maintain consistency and quality, authors are requested to adhere to the following detailed guidelines when preparing their manuscripts for submission:


1. Language and Format

  • The full text of the article must be written in Persian.

  • An abstract in Persian and an abstract in English are mandatory.

  • In addition to the abstracts, an Extended Abstract in English with a length between 1000 to 1500 words is required.

  • All parts of the article must be written in clear, academic, and formal language.

  • The article must be prepared using Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) file format.


2. Fonts and Typesetting

  • Persian text should use the B Lotus font, size 13 for the main text and size 11 for footnotes.

  • English sections (including English abstract and extended abstract) should use the Times New Roman font, size 12 for the main text and size 10 for footnotes.

  • Line spacing should be 1.5 for the Persian text and single (1.0) for English text.

  • All margins (top, bottom, right, left) should be set to 2.5 cm.

  • Articles must be fully justified (both left and right alignment).


3. Structure of the Manuscript

Manuscripts must be organized in the following order:

Title Page

  • Title of the article (in Persian and in English).

  • Full names of all authors (in Persian and in English).

  • Academic affiliation(s) (department, faculty, university/institution, city, country).

  • Corresponding author details (full postal address, telephone number, and email address).

Abstract (Persian and English)

  • Abstracts should be concise (150–250 words each).

  • Abstracts must clearly present the purpose of the study, methodology, key findings, and conclusions.

  • 4 to 6 keywords must be provided in both Persian and English, listed after each abstract.

Main Text (in Persian)

  • Introduction (including literature review and statement of the problem).

  • Research Methodology (design, data collection methods, analytical tools).

  • Findings (presentation of results with tables, graphs, and descriptive analysis if necessary).

  • Discussion (interpretation of findings in relation to prior studies).

  • Conclusion (summarizing major results, contributions, and limitations).

  • References (APA style, see below for more details).

  • Appendices (if necessary).

Extended Abstract (in English)

  • The extended abstract should include:

    • Introduction and background

    • Objectives

    • Methodology

    • Findings

    • Discussion

    • Conclusion

  • Word count must be between 1000 and 1500 words.

  • The extended abstract should be self-contained and comprehensible independently from the main article.


4. Citations and References

  • The APA (American Psychological Association) referencing style (latest edition) must be used throughout the manuscript for both Persian and English parts.

  • In-text citations must include the author's last name, publication year, and page number if quoting directly.

  • The reference list must be placed at the end of the article and arranged alphabetically.

  • In Persian articles, references must first be listed in Persian (if the source is in Persian), followed by references in English.

  • Book:
    Persian: نجفی، احمد. (۱۳۹۵). تاریخ دیپلماسی ایران. تهران: نشر نی.
    English: Smith, J. (2020). The history of diplomacy in Iran. Cambridge University Press.

  • Journal article:
    Persian: کاظمی، سارا. (۱۴۰۰). بررسی تطور اندیشه سیاسی در ایران معاصر. پژوهشنامه تاریخ سیاسی ایران، ۶(۲)، ۱۵۰-۱۷۵.
    English: Johnson, M. (2021). Evolution of political thought in contemporary Iran. Iranian Political History Research Journal, 6(2), 150–175.


5. Tables, Figures, and Illustrations

  • Tables and figures must be numbered sequentially and cited in the text.

  • Each table and figure must have a clear title (above the table/figure) and an explanatory note (if needed) below it.

  • Tables and figures must be presented in Persian and formatted according to APA guidelines.

  • Tables and figures must be inserted within the text at appropriate points (not at the end of the manuscript).


6. Ethical Considerations

  • Manuscripts submitted must be original and not published or under consideration elsewhere.

  • Plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, and redundant publication are strictly prohibited and will result in rejection or retraction.

  • All authors must have significantly contributed to the research and writing of the article.

  • Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that might bias their work.


7. Submission Process

  • Authors must submit their manuscripts electronically via the journal's online submission system.

  • Along with the manuscript, a separate Cover Letter must be submitted, introducing the article and affirming that it complies with the journal’s ethical guidelines.

  • All submitted articles will be screened for plagiarism using iThenticate before entering the peer review process.


8. Review Process

  • All submissions undergo an initial editorial assessment to determine suitability for the journal.

  • Suitable manuscripts will be subject to double-blind peer review by at least two or three expert reviewers.

  • Authors may be requested to revise their manuscripts based on reviewers' comments.

  • The final decision on acceptance, revision, or rejection lies with the journal’s Chief Editor.


9. Article Processing Charges (APC)

  • Upon acceptance, an Article Processing Charge (APC) of 1,500,000 Tomans must be paid to cover publication and processing costs.

  • There are no charges for article submission or during the review process.


10. Archiving and Accessibility

  • All published articles are made available open access on the journal’s official website immediately upon publication.

  • Authors are permitted to self-archive the final published version in institutional repositories or personal websites with full citation to the original source.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
