Travelogues, especially in the 19th and early 20th centuries, served as primary sources for analyzing Iranian politics, culture, and social structure. These texts not only directly describe Iran and its power relations but also function as tools for producing and consolidating colonial and Orientalist discourses. This paper particularly focuses on the discursive analysis of travelogues that depict Iran as a country devoid of rationality, corrupt, and despotic. This derogatory image, especially in works such as those by Edward Browne, Lord Curzon, and Colonel Shiel, was repeatedly used to legitimize Western political and military interventions in Iran and other Eastern countries. The study explores the role of these travelogues in producing and reinforcing colonial discourses and their discursive consequences on Western foreign policy towards Iran. Additionally, the paper highlights the limitations of this research and the need for further studies in this field.</p> <p>این مقاله به بررسی نقش سفرنامه‌ها در بازنمایی سلطنت قاجار و ساخت تصویری خاص از سیاست و قدرت ایران در دیدگاه غربی‌ها پرداخته است. سفرنامه‌ها به‌ویژه در قرن نوزدهم و اوایل قرن بیستم، از منابع اصلی برای تحلیل سیاست، فرهنگ و ساختار اجتماعی ایران به‌شمار می‌روند. این متون نه تنها به توصیف مستقیم ایران و مناسبات قدرت در آن پرداخته‌اند، بلکه به‌عنوان ابزارهایی برای تولید و تثبیت گفتمان‌های استعماری و شرق‌شناسانه عمل کرده‌اند. در این مقاله، تأکید ویژه‌ای بر تحلیل گفتمانی سفرنامه‌ها شده است که ایران را به‌عنوان کشوری فاقد عقلانیت، فساد و استبداد تصویر می‌کنند. این تصویر تحقیرآمیز، به‌ویژه در متونی چون سفرنامه‌های ادوارد براون، لرد کرزن و کلنل شیل، به‌طور مداوم برای مشروعیت‌بخشی به مداخلات سیاسی و نظامی غرب در ایران و سایر کشورهای شرقی به کار گرفته شده است. در این تحقیق، به نقش این سفرنامه‌ها در تولید و تثبیت گفتمان‌های استعماری، همچنین پیامدهای گفتمانی آن‌ها در سیاست خارجی غرب نسبت به ایران پرداخته شده است. همچنین، مقاله به محدودیت‌های پژوهش و نیاز به بررسی‌های بیشتر در این حوزه اشاره دارد.</p> https://iphrj.com/index.php/iphrj/article/download/32/26
